Educational Q&A

Creation is presented as proceeding through vidyā (a divine, ordering power of knowledge), and the Supreme is described as manifesting in multiple forms; among these, Vāsudeva is linked with the origination of the imperishable cosmic principle/personage Śeṣa.

In Bhīṣma’s discourse to Yudhiṣṭhira in Śānti Parva, he recounts a cosmological sequence: after a prior phase, the speaker declares that the universe will be produced again through vidyā, and notes that the fourth manifestation, Vāsudeva, generated Śeṣa, described as imperishable.
