सम्भूता: सर्वसम्भारास्तस्मिन् राजन् महाक्रतौ । न तत्र पशुघातो5भूत् स राजैवं स्थितो5भवत्,राजन! उस महान् यज्ञमें सारे सामान एकत्र किये गये; परंतु उसमें किसी पशुका वध नहीं हुआ। वे राजा उपरिचर इसी भावसे उस यज्ञमें स्थित हुए थे
sambhūtāḥ sarva-sambhārās tasmin rājan mahā-kratau | na tatra paśu-ghāto 'bhūt sa rājā evaṃ sthito 'bhavat ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—രാജാവേ, ആ മഹാക്രതുവിൽ ആവശ്യമായ എല്ലാ യാഗസാമഗ്രികളും സമ്പൂർണ്ണമായി ഒരുക്കിയിരുന്നു; എങ്കിലും അവിടെ ഒരു മൃഗഹത്യയും ഉണ്ടായില്ല. അഹിംസയും ധർമ്മവും നിലനിർത്തുന്ന യാഗം തന്നെയാകണം എന്ന ഉദ്ദേശത്തോടെ രാജാവ് ഉപരിചരൻ ആ യാഗത്തിൽ അങ്ങനെ തന്നെ നിലകൊണ്ടു.
