nādaṃ mahāntaṃ muktvā sa mūrcchito girimūrdhani
The verse highlights the limits of the embodied condition: even after a forceful outward expression (a great cry), a person may be overcome by emotion, fear, grief, or exhaustion and lose consciousness. In ethical reflection, it underscores compassion and realism about human vulnerability rather than harsh judgment.
Bhīṣma describes a moment where a person, after uttering a loud, intense cry, collapses unconscious on a mountain summit—suggesting a sudden crisis or overwhelming experience that physically incapacitates him.
