Royal Duty, Lawful Discipline, and the Question of Agency
तद् राजन् जीवमानस्त्वं प्रायश्षित्तं करिष्यसि । प्रायश्षित्तमकृत्वा तु प्रेत्य तप्तासि भारत
tad rājan jīvamānas tvaṁ prāyaścittaṁ kariṣyasi | prāyaścittam akṛtvā tu pretya taptāsi bhārata ||
വ്യാസൻ പറഞ്ഞു— അതിനാൽ, ഹേ രാജാവേ! നീ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നാൽ ആ കർമ്മങ്ങൾക്ക് പ്രായശ്ചിത്തം നിർവഹിക്കും; എന്നാൽ പ്രായശ്ചിത്തം ചെയ്യാതെ മരിച്ചാൽ, ഹേ ഭാരതാ! പരലോകത്തിൽ നീ ദുഃഖതാപം അനുഭവിക്കേണ്ടിവരും.
