Educational Q&A

The verse links human departure with ṛta (cosmic order): a disciplined, dharmic life culminates in an auspicious end aligned with sacred time. It underscores steadiness and spiritual readiness—waiting for the right moment without anxiety, trusting the moral structure of the universe.

Yudhiṣṭhira addresses the elder who is awaiting his chosen time of death, saying that only a few days remain while the Sun is in dakṣiṇāyana; when the Sun turns to uttarāyaṇa, the elder will depart to the highest destination.
