हिरण्यगर्भो भगवानेष बुद्धिरिति स्मृत: । महानिति च योगेषु विरिज्चिरिति चाप्यज:,परमेश्वरसे उत्पन्न जो सबके अग्रज भगवान् हिरण्यगर्भ हैं, ये ही बुद्धि कहे गये हैं। योगशास्त्रमें ये ही महान् कहे गये हैं। इन्हींको विरिज्चि तथा अज भी कहते हैं
hiraṇyagarbho bhagavān eṣa buddhir iti smṛtaḥ | mahān iti ca yogeṣu viriñcir iti cāpy ajaḥ |
വസിഷ്ഠൻ പറഞ്ഞു—പരമേശ്വരനിൽ നിന്നു ഉദ്ഭവിച്ച, എല്ലാവരുടെയും ആദിജനായ ഭഗവാൻ ഹിരണ്യഗർഭൻ ‘ബുദ്ധി’ എന്നു സ്മൃതിയിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധൻ. യോഗശാസ്ത്രങ്ങളിൽ അവൻ ‘മഹാൻ’ എന്നും വിളിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. അവനെ ‘വിരിഞ്ചി’ എന്നും ‘അജ’ എന്നും കൂടി പറയുന്നു.
