Welfare, Steadfastness, and Norms of Giving

एक: शर्त्रुर्न द्वितीयो<$स्ति शरत्रु- रज्ञानतुल्य: पुरुषस्य राजन । येनावृतः कुरुते सम्प्रयुक्तो घोराणि कर्माणि सुदारुणानि

ekaḥ śatrur na dvitīyo 'sti śatruḥ—ajñānatulyaḥ puruṣasya rājan | yenāvṛtaḥ kurute samprayukto ghorāṇi karmāṇi sudāruṇāni ||

പരാശരൻ പറഞ്ഞു—രാജാവേ! മനുഷ്യന് ഒരേയൊരു യഥാർത്ഥ ശത്രുവേ ഉള്ളൂ; അതിനോട് തുല്യമായ രണ്ടാമൻ ഇല്ല. ആ ശത്രു അജ്ഞാനമാണ്. അതാൽ മൂടപ്പെട്ടും അതാൽ പ്രേരിതനുമായ മനുഷ്യൻ ഭീകരവും അത്യന്തം ക്രൂരവുമായ കർമ്മങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യുന്നു।
