ततः स यज्ञो नृपते वध्यमान: समन्ततः
tataḥ sa yajño nṛpate vadhyamānaḥ samantataḥ
അപ്പോൾ, ഹേ നൃപതേ, ആ യജ്ഞം എല്ലാദിക്കുകളിൽ നിന്നുമുള്ള ആക്രമണത്തിൽ പെട്ട് നശിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടാൻ തുടങ്ങി।
भीष्म उवाच
The line frames a moral problem central to Śānti Parva: when a sacred rite is attacked “from all sides,” the king’s dharma includes safeguarding social and religious order, while also judging whether the rite remains righteous in intent and conduct.
Bhīṣma addresses the king and describes a sacrifice that is being violently disrupted or destroyed on every side, setting up the next verses that explain who attacks it, why it is endangered, and what ethical conclusions should be drawn.
