काल पश्यति सुव्यक्ते पाणावामलकं यथा । कालचारित्रतत्त्वज्ञ: सर्वशास्त्रविशारद:
kālaṁ paśyati suvyakte pāṇāv āmalakaṁ yathā | kālacāritra-tattvajñaḥ sarvaśāstra-viśāradaḥ ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—കൈപ്പത്തിയിൽ വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ആമലകഫലം പോലെ നീ കാലത്തെ അത്യന്തം വ്യക്തമായി കാണുന്നു. നീ കാലത്തിന്റെ സ്വഭാവവും പ്രവർത്തനരീതിയും അറിയുന്ന തത്ത്വജ്ഞൻ; സർവ്വശാസ്ത്രങ്ങളിലും വിശാരദൻ.
