कालनिर्णयः, युगधर्मवर्णनम्, सृष्टिक्रमश्च

Time-Reckoning, Yuga-Dharma, and the Sequence of Creation

स्थिता हीन्द्र सहस्रेषु त्वद्विशिष्टतमेष्वियम्‌ । मां च लोला परित्यज्य त्वामगाद्‌ विबुधाधिप,इन्द्र! यह लक्ष्मी तुमसे भी श्रेष्ठ सहस्रों पुरुषोंके पास रह चुकी है। देवेश्वर! इस समय यह चंचला मुझे भी छोड़कर तुम्हारे पास गयी है

śakra uvāca | sthitā hīndra sahasreṣu tvad-viśiṣṭatameṣv iyam | māṃ ca lolā parityajya tvām agād vibudhādhipa |

ഹേ ഇന്ദ്രാ! ഈ ലക്ഷ്മി നിന്നേക്കാൾ പോലും വിശിഷ്ടരായ അനേകം സഹസ്രരുടെ ഇടയിൽ വസിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഹേ വിബുധാധിപാ! ചഞ്ചലയായ അവൾ എന്നെയും ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച് ഇപ്പോൾ നിന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്ക് പോയിരിക്കുന്നു.

Prosperity (Śrī/Lakṣmī) is inherently unstable and does not permanently belong to any one person, even the powerful; therefore one should not become arrogant in success nor despair in loss, but ground conduct in dharma rather than in fluctuating fortune.
