न केनचित्‌ प्रवादेन सत्येनैवापहारिणा । धर्मायोत्तिष्ठ विप्रर्षे नात्मानं त्यक्तुमहसि

Transliteration

na kenacit pravādena satyenaivāpahāriṇā | dharmāyottiṣṭha viprarṣe nātmānaṃ tyaktum arhasi ||

Translation

ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഏതൊരു അപവാദം കൊണ്ടും—അത് സത്യമാകുകയും മാനമർഹത കവർന്നെടുക്കുന്നതാകുകയും ചെയ്താലും—നീ ജീവത്യാഗം ചിന്തിക്കരുത്. ഹേ ബ്രഹ്മർഷേ, ധർമ്മത്തിനായി എഴുന്നേൽക്കുക; ആത്മത്യാഗം നിനക്കു യോജിച്ചതല്ല.
