शुशुभाते5तिविमले द्वे नेत्रे कृष्णपिड्ले । उसने काले मृगचर्मको वस्त्रके रूपमें धारण कर रक्खा था, जिसमें सुवर्णनिर्मित तारे जड़े हुए थे। वह अपने ललाटमें सूर्यके समान एक तेजस्वी नेत्र धारण करता था। उसके सिवा काले और पिड्नलवर्णके दो अत्यन्त निर्मल नेत्र और शोभा पा रहे थे
śuśubhāte 'tivimale dve netre kṛṣṇapiṅgale | sa kāle mṛgacarmako vastrārūpeṇa dhārayām āsa, yasmin suvarṇanirmitāḥ tārāḥ jaḍitāḥ āsan | sa sva-lalāṭe sūrya-sadṛśaṃ tejasvi netraṃ dhārayām āsa | tat-śeṣe kṛṣṇa-piṅgalavarṇe dve atyanta-nirmale netre ca śobhāṃ prāpnutaḥ |
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു— അവന്റെ രണ്ടു കണ്ണുകൾ—കൃഷ്ണവും പിംഗളവും—അത്യന്തം നിർമലമായി ശോഭിച്ചു. അവൻ വസ്ത്രമായി കറുത്ത മൃഗചർമ്മം ധരിച്ചിരുന്നു; അതിൽ സ്വർണ്ണനിർമിത നക്ഷത്രസദൃശ അലങ്കാരങ്ങൾ പതിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു. ലലാട്ടത്തിൽ സൂര്യനെപ്പോലെ ജ്വലിക്കുന്ന ദീപ്തമായ മൂന്നാം കണ്ണും അവൻ ധരിച്ചു; അതിനുപുറമെ ആ രണ്ടു കൃഷ്ണ-പിംഗള കണ്ണുകളും കറകളില്ലാതെ പ്രകാശിച്ചു.
