Gautama–Yama Saṃvāda: Mātṛ-Pitṛ-Ṛṇa (Debt to Parents) and Śubha-Loka Attainment
भवत् तपोविघधातो वा यदि स्याद् विरमे ततः । यदि वास्ति कथायोगो योडयं प्रश्नो मयेरित:,“यदि मेरे इस प्रश्नसे आपलोगोंकी तपस्यामें विघ्न पड़ रहा हो तो मैं इससे विराम लेता हूँ और यदि आपके पास बातचीतका समय हो तो जो प्रश्न मैंने उपस्थित किया है, इसका आप समाधान करें। मैं इस आशाके कारण और सामर्थ्यके विषयमें ठीक-ठीक सुनना चाहता हूँ। आपलोग भी सदा तपमें संलग्न रहनेवाले हैं; अतः एकत्र होकर इस प्रश्नका विवेचन करें”
bhavat tapovighadhāto vā yadi syād virame tataḥ | yadi vāsti kathāyogo yo 'yaṃ praśno mayeritaḥ |
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു— “എന്റെ ഈ ചോദ്യം നിങ്ങളുടെ തപസ്സിന് വിഘാതമാകുമെങ്കിൽ ഞാൻ ഉടൻ തന്നെ വിരമിക്കും. എന്നാൽ സംഭാഷണത്തിന് അവസരം ഉണ്ടെങ്കിൽ, ഞാൻ ഉന്നയിച്ച ഈ ചോദ്യം പരിഹരിക്കണം. പ്രത്യാശയുടെ കാരണവും ശേഷിയുടെ യഥാർത്ഥ അളവും ഞാൻ വ്യക്തമായി കേൾക്കാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു. നിങ്ങൾ എപ്പോഴും തപസ്സിൽ നിരതരാണ്; അതിനാൽ ഒന്നിച്ചു ചേർന്ന് ഈ വിഷയത്തെ ആലോചിക്കൂ.”
