भीष्म उवाच नच प्रशास्तुं राज्यं हि शक्यमेकेन भारत । असहायवता तात नैवार्था: केचिदप्युत

Transliteration

bhīṣma uvāca | na ca praśāstuṃ rājyaṃ hi śakyam ekena bhārata | asahāyavatā tāta naivārthāḥ kecid apy uta ||

Translation

ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു— ഹേ ഭാരതാ! ഒരാളാൽ മാത്രം രാജ്യം ഭരിക്കാൻ സാധ്യമല്ല. പ്രിയപുത്രാ! സഹായമില്ലാതെ യാതൊരു ലക്ഷ്യവും സിദ്ധിക്കുകയില്ല; എന്തെങ്കിലും ലഭിച്ചാലും അതിന്റെ സംരക്ഷണം ദീർഘകാലം നിലനിൽക്കില്ല. അതിനാൽ ഭൃത്യരും സഹായികളും അനിവാര്യരാണ്. ആരുടെ ഭൃത്യർ ജ്ഞാന-വിജ്ഞാനങ്ങളിൽ നിപുണരും, ഹിതൈഷികളും, കുലീനരും, സ്നേഹശീലരുമായിരിക്കുമോ, ആ രാജാവേ രാജ്യഫലം അനുഭവിക്കുകയുള്ളൂ.
