कोई उनके विषयमें यह निश्चय करने लगे कि “ये ब्रह्माजीके पुत्र, सबके अग्रज एवं ब्रह्मयोनि सनत्कुमार हैं' ।।
ke cin maheśvara-sutaṁ ke cit putraṁ vibhāvasoḥ | umāyāḥ kṛttikānāṁ ca gaṅgāyāś ca vadanty uta ||
ചിലർ ‘ഇവൻ ബ്രഹ്മാവിന്റെ പുത്രൻ, സർവ്വരുടെയും അഗ്രജൻ, ബ്രഹ്മയോനി സനത്കുമാരൻ’ എന്നു നിശ്ചയിച്ചു. മറ്റുചിലർ അവനെ മഹേശ്വരന്റെ പുത്രനെന്നും, ചിലർ വിഭാവസു (അഗ്നി)യുടെ പുത്രനെന്നും; ഉമയുടെ, കൃത്തികകളുടെ, ഗംഗയുടെ പുത്രനെന്നും പറഞ്ഞു.
