Śiśupāla-vākya: Bhīṣma-nindā and the ‘Haṃsa’ Exemplum (शिशुपालवाक्यम् — भीष्मनिन्दा, हंसदृष्टान्तः)

ज्ञानवृद्धा मया राजन्‌ बहव: पर्युपासिता: । तेषां कथयतां शौरेरहं गुणवतो गुणान्‌

jñānavṛddhā mayā rājan bahavaḥ paryupāsitāḥ | teṣāṃ kathayatāṃ śaurer ahaṃ guṇavato guṇān

ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—രാജാവേ, ജ്ഞാനത്തിൽ വൃദ്ധരായ അനേകം മഹാന്മാരെ ഞാൻ ദീർഘകാലം സേവിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. അവരുടെ വിവരണങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് ശൗരിയുടെ—ഗുണവാന്റെ—ഗുണങ്ങൾ ഞാൻ കേട്ട് അറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
