अहं सखा महेन्द्रस्य शक्रादनवरो रणे । न शक्ष्यामि च ते तात स्थातुं प्रमुखतो युधि
ahaṃ sakhā mahendrasya śakrād anavaro raṇe | na śakṣyāmi ca te tāta sthātuṃ pramukhato yudhi ||
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു— “ഞാൻ മഹേന്ദ്രൻ (ഇന്ദ്രൻ) എന്ന ദേവരാജന്റെ സുഹൃത്താണ്; യുദ്ധത്തിൽ ശക്രനേക്കാൾ കുറവുമല്ല. എങ്കിലും, മകനേ, യുദ്ധത്തിന്റെ മുൻനിരയിൽ നിന്റെ മുന്നിൽ നില്ക്കാൻ എനിക്കാവില്ല.”
