शममेव परं मन्ये शमात्‌ क्षेम॑ भवेन्मम । आरम्भे पारमेष्ठ्ये तु न प्राप्पमिति मे मति:,मैं तो मन और इन्द्रियोंके संयमको ही सबसे उत्तम मानता हूँ, उसीसे मेरा भला होगा। राजसूय-यज्ञका आरम्भ करनेपर भी उसके फलस्वरूप ब्रह्मलोककी प्राप्ति अपने लिये असम्भव है--मेरी तो यही धारणा है

Transliteration

śamam eva paraṃ manye śamāt kṣemaṃ bhaven mama | ārambhe pārameṣṭhye tu na prāpnam iti me matiḥ ||

Translation

ഞാൻ മനസ്സിന്റെയും ഇന്ദ്രിയങ്ങളുടെയും സംയമത്തെയേ പരമമെന്ന് കരുതുന്നു; സംയമത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് എനിക്ക് ക్షേമം ഉണ്ടാകുക. രാജസൂയയജ്ഞം ആരംഭിച്ചാലും, അതിന്റെ ഫലമായി ബ്രഹ്മലോകപ്രാപ്തി എനിക്ക് സാധ്യമല്ല—ഇതാണ് എന്റെ ധാരണ.
