Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how fear and misperception can shatter collective resolve: when warriors believe they are singled out by formidable heroes, panic spreads, leading to collapse of morale. Ethically, it underscores the inner dimension of warfare—victory and defeat depend not only on weapons but on steadiness of mind.

Sañjaya reports that Kaurava troops, imagining Arjuna is pursuing them and Bhīma is charging at them, become confused and terrified. Overwhelmed by that panic, they stumble and fall, and their spirits sink.
