विना किरीटं शुशुभे स पार्थ: श्यामो युवा नील इवोच्चशूड्र: । ततः समुद्ग्रथ्य सितेन वाससा स्वमूर्थजानव्यथितस्तदार्जुन: | विभासित: सूर्यमरीचिना दृढं शिरोगतेनोदयपर्वतो यथा
vinā kirīṭaṁ śuśubhe sa pārthaḥ śyāmo yuvā nīla ivoccacūḍraḥ | tataḥ samudgrathya sitena vāsasā svamūrdhajān vyathitas tadārjunaḥ | vibhāsitaḥ sūryamarīcinā dṛḍhaṁ śirogatenodayaparvato yathā ||
സഞ്ജയൻ പറഞ്ഞു—കിരീടമില്ലാതെയും ആ ശ്യാമവർണ്ണനായ യുവ പാർഥൻ ഉയർന്ന നീലശിഖരമുള്ള പർവതംപോലെ ശോഭിച്ചു. പിന്നെ സ്വന്തം ശിരോഭൂഷണം നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട വേദനയിൽ അർജുനൻ വെളുത്ത വസ്ത്രം കൊണ്ട് മുടി കെട്ടി യുദ്ധത്തിനായി അചഞ്ചലമായി നിന്നു. തലയിൽ പതിക്കുന്ന സൂര്യകിരണങ്ങളാൽ അവൻ ദൃഢമായി ദീപ്തനായി—ഉദയപർവതത്തിന്റെ ശിഖരം പ്രഭാതത്തിൽ പ്രകാശം പിടിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ।
