कृष्णं च पार्थ च तथा ध्वजं च पार्थनुजान् सोमकान् पातयंश्र । तदनन्तर सूर्यकुमार कर्णने दस हजार उत्तम बाणोंद्वारा वायुपुत्र भीमसेनके मर्मस्थानोंपर गहरा आघात किया। साथ ही

സഞ്ജയൻ പറഞ്ഞു— അവൻ ശരവർഷം ചൊരിഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണനെയും അർജുനനെയും രഥധ്വജത്തെയും അർജുനന്റെ അനുജന്മാരെയും സോമകരെയും വീഴ്ത്താൻ ശ്രമിച്ചു। തുടർന്ന് സൂര്യപുത്രൻ കർണ്ണൻ പത്തായിരം ഉത്തമബാണങ്ങളാൽ വായുപുത്രൻ ഭീമസേനന്റെ മർമ്മസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിൽ ആഴമുള്ള പ്രഹാരം ഏല്പിച്ചു; അതേ സമയം കൃഷ്ണൻ, അർജുനൻ, ധ്വജം, കനിഷ്ഠ പാണ്ഡവർ, സോമകർ— ഇവരെല്ലാം നശിപ്പിക്കാനുള്ള ഉദ്ദേശത്തോടെ ആക്രമണം കടുപ്പിച്ചു।
