Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how extraordinary prowess can decisively shift the battlefield’s atmosphere: disciplined, concentrated power can quell chaos. Ethically, it underscores the Mahābhārata’s recurring tension—martial excellence is awe-inspiring, yet it operates within the larger moral burden of war.

Sañjaya narrates that Karṇa, described as possessing immeasurable tejas (splendor/power), causes the ‘great sounds’—the uproar of battle—to disappear, suggesting that his action, advance, or display of might overwhelms and silences the surrounding tumult.
