वैशम्पायन उवाच श्रुत्वा कर्णस्य निधनमश्रद्धेयमिवाद्भधुतम् । भूतसम्मोहनं भीम॑ मेरो: संसर्पणं यथा
vaiśampāyana uvāca | śrutvā karṇasya nidhanam aśraddheyam ivādbhutam | bhūta-sammohanaṁ bhīmaṁ meroḥ saṁsarpaṇaṁ yathā ||
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു—രാജാവേ! കർണ്ണന്റെ മരണവാർത്ത കേട്ടപ്പോൾ അത് അത്ഭുതവും വിശ്വസിക്കാനാകാത്തതുമായതായി തോന്നി. ആ ഭീകര സംഭവം, മേരുപർവ്വതം തന്റെ സ്ഥാനത്തു നിന്നു മാറി മറ്റൊരിടത്തേക്ക് നീങ്ങിയതുപോലെ, സകല ജീവികളെയും മോഹത്തിലാഴ്ത്തി.
