कर्णस्य सेनापत्यं, माकरव्यूहः, पाण्डवानामर्धचन्द्रव्यूहः

श्रुत्वा व्यामोहमागच्छच्छोकव्याकुलितेन्द्रिय: । वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--राजन्! यह कहते हुए ही अम्बिकानन्दन धृतराष्ट्र उस समय यह सुनकर कि अपनी सेनाके प्रमुख वीर मारे गये, अधिकांश सेना नष्ट हो गयी और बहुत थोड़ी शेष रह गयी है, मूर्च्छित हो गये। उनकी इन्द्रियाँ शोकसे व्याकुल हो उठीं
śrutvā vyāmoham āgacchac choka-vyākulitendriyaḥ |
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഇതു കേട്ടപ്പോൾ അവൻ വ്യാമോഹത്തിലായി; ശോകം അവന്റെ ഇന്ദ്രിയങ്ങളെ വ്യാകുലമാക്കി. സൈന്യത്തിലെ പ്രമുഖ വീരന്മാർ വധിക്കപ്പെട്ടു, സൈന്യം പ്രായഃ നശിച്ചു, അല്പം മാത്രമേ ശേഷിക്കുകയുള്ളൂ എന്നു കേട്ടതോടെ അംബികാനന്ദനൻ ധൃതരാഷ്ട്രൻ ശോകത്തിൽ മൂർഛിച്ച് വീണു।
