ज्यातलनत्रेषुशब्दांश्न शृणु कर्ण महात्मनाम् | “कर्ण! बाणोंके भाँति-भाँतिके शब्द, मनुष्यों, घोड़ों और रथोंके कोलाहल तथा महामनस्वी वीरोंकी प्रत्यंचा और दस्तानोंके शब्द सुनो
Sañjaya uvāca: jyātalanatreṣuśabdāṃś ca śṛṇu karṇa mahātmanām | karṇa! bāṇānāṃ bhānti-bhāntike śabdān manuṣyāśva-ratha-kolāhalaṃ ca mahāmanasvī-vīrāṇāṃ pratyancā-dastāna-śabdāṃś ca śṛṇu ||
സഞ്ജയൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഹേ കർണാ, മഹാത്മാവായ വീരന്മാരുടെ ശബ്ദങ്ങൾ കേൾക്കുക—ധനുസ്സിന്റെ ജ്യയുടെ ടങ്കാരം, രക്ഷാകവചങ്ങളുടെയും ഉപകരണങ്ങളുടെയും ചടചട ശബ്ദം, അമ്പുകളുടെ പലവിധ വിസിൽപ്പും ഇടിയുടെ തക്-തക്, മനുഷ്യൻ-കുതിര-രഥങ്ങളുടെ ഭീകര കോലാഹലം. കേൾക്കുക, ഈ കഠിന യുദ്ധധർമ്മത്തിൽ പ്രവേശിച്ചവരുടെ ദൃഢനിശ്ചയവും പരാക്രമവും യുദ്ധഭൂമിയേ തന്നെ പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ തോന്നുന്നു।
