द्वीपद्गुमानपश्यन्तं निपातार्थे श्रमान्वितम्‌ इधर कौआ थक गया था। उसे कहीं आश्रय लेनेके लिये द्वीप या वृक्ष नहीं दिखायी दे रहे थे; अतः उसके मनमें भय समा गया और वह घबराकर अचेत-सा हो उठा

dvīpadgumān apaśyantaṁ nipātārthe śramānvitam

ഹംസ പറഞ്ഞു—ശ്രമംകൊണ്ട് ക്ഷീണിച്ച അവൻ ഇറങ്ങാൻ ഇടം തേടിയെങ്കിലും ദ്വീപും കണ്ടില്ല, വൃക്ഷവും കണ്ടില്ല. ആശ്രയം ഒന്നും ദൃശ്യമാകാതിരുന്നതിനാൽ ഭയം അവന്റെ മനസ്സിൽ കയറിവന്നു; ഭീതിയിൽ അവൻ അചേതനനായതുപോലെ ആയി.
