Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how, in a war setting, information and recognition of a key warrior (Arjuna) are treated as highly valuable; the ethical dimension lies in the use of dāna (gifts) as an incentive, showing the social legitimacy of rewarding service while also revealing how material inducements can be mobilized for martial aims.

Sañjaya reports an offer being escalated: if the promised reward is not deemed enough by the person capable of pointing out Arjuna, an increased bounty is proposed—one hundred milk-giving cows and a bronze milking vessel—underscoring the urgency of locating/identifying Arjuna amid the battle’s confusion.
