भीष्मशिबिरगमनम् — Duryodhana’s Visit to Bhīṣma’s Camp and the Command Appeal
इस प्रकार श्रीमह्ााभारत भीष्मपर्वके अन्तर्गत भीष्यवधपर्वमें आठवें दिनके युद्धसे सम्बन्ध रखनेवाला नवासीवाँ अध्याय पूरा हुआ,दृष्टवा द्रोणस्य विक्रान्तं पाण्डवान् भयमाविशत् | एक एव रणे शक्तो निहन्तुं सर्वसैनिकान् द्रोणाचार्यका पराक्रम देखकर तो पाण्डवोंके मनमें भय समा गया। महाराज! वे युद्धस्थलमें द्रोणाचार्यसे पीड़ित होकर कहने लगे कि “रणभूमिमें अकेले द्रोणाचार्य ही समस्त सैनिकोंको मार डालनेकी शक्ति रखते हैं। फिर जब ये भूमण्डलके सुविख्यात शूरवीर योद्धाओंके समुदायोंसे घिरे हुए हैं, तब तो इनकी विजयके लिये कहना ही क्या है?”
dṛṣṭvā droṇasya vikrāntaṃ pāṇḍavān bhayam āviśat | eka eva raṇe śakto nihantuṃ sarvasainikān ||
ദ്രോണന്റെ വിക്രാന്ത പരാക്രമം കണ്ടപ്പോൾ പാണ്ഡവരുടെ ഹൃദയങ്ങളിൽ ഭയം കയറിവന്നു. യുദ്ധഭൂമിയിൽ ദ്രോണന്റെ പ്രഹരത്തിൽ പീഡിതരായി അവർ പറഞ്ഞു—“പോരിൽ ദ്രോണാചാര്യൻ ഒരുത്തൻ മാത്രം എല്ലാ സൈന്യത്തെയും നശിപ്പിക്കാൻ ശേഷിയുള്ളവൻ.”
