Adhyāya 78 — Bhīṣma’s Advance, Duryodhana’s Rally, and Concurrent Duels (भीष्मस्याभ्युद्यमः, दुर्योधनस्योत्साहवचनम्, विविधयुद्धवर्णनम्)
भारत! तुषार, यवन, शक और चूचुपदेशके सैनिक व्यूहके दाहिने पक्षका आश्रय लेकर स्थित हुए ।।
śrutāyuś ca śatāyuś ca saumadattiś ca māriṣa | vyūhasya jaghane tasthuḥ rakṣamāṇāḥ parasparam ||
സഞ്ജയൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഹേ ഭാരതാ! ശ്രുതായു, ശതായു, സോമദത്തപുത്രൻ ഭൂരിശ്രവസ്—ഇവർ പരസ്പരം കാത്തുകൊണ്ട് വ്യൂഹത്തിന്റെ പിന്ഭാഗത്ത് നിലകൊണ്ടു।
संजय उवाच
Even in warfare, conduct is framed by discipline and responsibility: warriors are assigned positions within a larger order and are expected to uphold comradeship through mutual protection, reflecting a kṣatriya ethic of duty and solidarity.
Sañjaya reports troop placement within the Kaurava battle-array: Śrutāyu, Śatāyu, and Bhūriśravas (Somadatta’s son) are stationed at the rear (jaghana) of the formation, standing together and guarding one another.
