Adhyāya 74 (Book 6, Bhīṣma-parva): Bhīma–Duryodhana re-engagement and afternoon escalation
महाराज! उस युद्धमें कितने ही हाथियोंके द्वारा विशाल सर्पराजके समान सूँड़ोंसे खींचकर फेंके हुए रथोंके ध्वज और कूबर चूर-चूर होकर गिरते देखे जाते थे ।।
sañjaya uvāca | mahārāja! tasmin yuddhe bahubhir dantibhir mahāsarpārāja-sadṛśaiḥ śuṇḍaiḥ kṛṣṭvā kṣiptānāṃ rathānāṃ dhvajāḥ kūbarāś ca cūrṇitāḥ patantīti dṛśyante sma | viśīrṇa-ratha-saṅghān keśeṣv ākṣipya dantibhiḥ | drumāśākhā iva āvidhya niṣpiṣṭā rathino raṇe ||
മഹാരാജാ! ആ യുദ്ധത്തിൽ സർപ്പരാജനെപ്പോലുള്ള തുമ്പിക്കൈകളാൽ ആനകൾ രഥങ്ങളെ വലിച്ചെറിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ, അവയുടെ ധ്വജങ്ങളും കൂബരങ്ങളും ചിതറി നിലംപതിക്കുന്നതു കാണാമായിരുന്നു. പിന്നെ ദന്തികൾ രഥക്കൂട്ടങ്ങളെ തകർത്തു, അതിലിരുന്ന രഥികളെ മുടി പിടിച്ച് വലിച്ചിഴച്ച്, വൃക്ഷശാഖപോലെ ചുറ്റി നിലത്തടിച്ചു; റണത്തിൽ അവർ പൂർണ്ണമായി പിഷ്ടരായി.
