Makara-vyūha and Krauñca-prativyūha at Sunrise (मकरव्यूहः क्रौञ्चप्रतिव्यूहश्च)
devānām api devaṁ ca tvām āha bhagavān bhṛguḥ | purāṇaṁ caiva paramaṁ viṣṇo rūpaṁ taveti ca ||
The verse asserts Viṣṇu’s supreme status: he is ‘the God even of the gods,’ and the highest, most ancient reality is identified with his form. It emphasizes devotion grounded in the testimony of an authoritative sage (Bhṛgu) and in ancient tradition.
Bhīṣma is speaking and cites the declaration of the sage Bhṛgu to validate a theological claim about Viṣṇu’s supremacy. The line functions as a scriptural-style endorsement, strengthening the devotional and doctrinal point being made in the surrounding discourse.
