The Battlefield Impact of Bhīmasena’s Mace Combat
tato duryodhano rājā dṛṣṭvā putraṃ mahāratham | pīḍitaṃ tava pautreṇa prāyāt tatra prajeśvaraḥ ||

The verse highlights how a ruler’s responsibilities and personal bonds collide in wartime: seeing his son endangered, Duryodhana is compelled to act directly. It reflects the ethical tension between impartial kingship and familial attachment, and how escalating violence forces immediate, personal intervention.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Duryodhana notices his son, a great warrior, being severely pressured by Abhimanyu (Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s grandson). Alarmed, Duryodhana himself goes to that spot on the battlefield.
