Educational Q&A

The verse underscores the harsh reality of kṣatriya warfare: steadfastness and courage are demanded when one is overwhelmed by force. Ethically, it frames the battlefield as a domain where duty and endurance are tested amid intense violence, without celebrating cruelty for its own sake.

Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Kalinga fighters collectively attack Bhīma, pelting him with multiple kinds of weapons in a concentrated assault.
