उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
व्यास उवाच प्रसन्नभा: पावक ऊर्ध्वरश्मि: प्रदक्षिणावर्त शिखो विधूम: । पुण्या गन्धाश्चाहुतीनां प्रवान्ति जयस्यैतद् भाविनो रूपमाहु:
vyāsa uvāca | prasannabhāḥ pāvaka ūrdhvaraśmiḥ pradakṣiṇāvartaśikho vidhūmaḥ | puṇyā gandhāś cāhutīnāṃ pravānti jayasya etad bhāvino rūpam āhuḥ ||
വ്യാസൻ പറഞ്ഞു—അഗ്നിയുടെ പ്രകാശം നിർമ്മലവും പ്രസന്നവുമായിരിക്കയും, ജ്വാലകൾ മേലോട്ടുയർന്ന് വലത്തോട്ടു (പ്രദക്ഷിണാവർത്തമായി) തിരിയുകയും, പുക ഒട്ടുമില്ലാതിരിക്കയും, ആഹുതികളുടെ പുണ്യസുഗന്ധം കാറ്റിൽ പരന്നൊഴുകുകയും ചെയ്താൽ—ഇത് വരാനിരിക്കുന്ന ജയത്തിന്റെ ലക്ഷണമെന്നു പറയുന്നു.
