उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
हन्यात् स एन॑ यो हन्यात् कुलधर्म स्विकां तनुम् | कालेनोत्पथगन्तासि शक््ये सति यथा55पदि
hanyāt sa enaṃ yo hanyāt kuladharma-svikāṃ tanum | kālenotpatha-gantāsi śakye sati yathā || 55 ||
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു— “കുലധർമ്മത്തെ നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നവൻ തന്റെ ശരീരത്തെ തന്നെ നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നതുപോലെയാണ്; അതേ ധർമ്മം തന്നെ മറുപടിയായി അവനെ വീഴ്ത്തും. ധർമ്മം പാലിക്കുക ഇപ്പോഴും സാധ്യമായിരിക്കെ—അനിവാര്യമായ ദുരന്തം വരുന്നതിന് മുമ്പേ—നീ കാലത്തിന്റെ പ്രേരണയിൽ ധർമ്മത്തിൽ നിന്ന് മാറി ദുഷ്പഥത്തിലേക്ക് തിരിയുന്നു; മനുഷ്യർ പലപ്പോഴും ദുരിതത്തിൽ വീണശേഷം മാത്രമേ അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യാറുള്ളൂ।”
