उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
वृक्षा: पतन्ति चैत्याश्व ग्रामेषु नगरेषु च । बालू और कंकड़ खींचकर बरसानेवाले भयानक बवंडर उठकर वृक्षोंको उखाड़ डालते हैं। गाँवों तथा नगरोंमें वृक्ष और चैत्यवृक्ष प्रचण्ड आँधियों तथा बिजलीके आघातोंसे टूटकर गिर रहे हैं
vṛkṣāḥ patanti caityāśva grāmeṣu nagareṣu ca |
വ്യാസൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും നഗരങ്ങളിലും വൃക്ഷങ്ങൾ വീഴുന്നു; ക്ഷേത്ര-ചൈത്യങ്ങളിലെ പുണ്യവൃക്ഷങ്ങളും നിലംപതിക്കുന്നു. മണലും കല്ലും മഴപോലെ എറിഞ്ഞുവിടുന്ന ഭയാനക ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റുകൾ ഉയർന്ന് അവയെ വേരോടെ പിഴുതെറിയുന്നു; പ്രചണ്ഡ കാറ്റും മിന്നലിന്റെ പ്രഹരവും മൂലം എല്ലായിടത്തും വൃക്ഷങ്ങൾ പൊട്ടി വീഴുന്നു—മഹായുദ്ധം അടുത്തുവരുമ്പോൾ ധർമ്മവ്യവസ്ഥ തന്നെ കുലുങ്ങുന്നു എന്ന അശുഭ സൂചനയാണിത്.
