उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
अपर्वणि ग्रहेणैतौ प्रजा: संक्षपयिष्यत: । मांसवर्ष पुनस्तीव्रमासीत् कृष्णचतुर्दशीम् । शोणितैर्वक्त्रसम्पूर्णा अतृप्तास्तत्र राक्षसा:
aparvaṇi graheṇaitau prajāḥ saṅkṣapayīṣyataḥ | māṃsavarṣa punastīvram āsīt kṛṣṇacaturdaśīm | śoṇitair vaktrasampūrṇā atṛptās tatra rākṣasāḥ ||
വ്യാസൻ പറഞ്ഞു—അപ്രസിദ്ധവും അശുഭവുമായ സമയത്ത് ഗ്രഹണം സംഭവിച്ചതിനാൽ ഈ സൂര്യനും ചന്ദ്രനും ജനങ്ങളുടെ നാശത്തിന് കാരണമാകും. പിന്നെയും, കൃഷ്ണപക്ഷത്തിലെ ചതുര്ദശിദിനത്തിൽ ഭയങ്കരമായി മാംസവർഷം പെയ്തു. അപ്പോൾ അവിടെ രാക്ഷസന്മാരുടെ വായുകൾ രക്തംകൊണ്ട് നിറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു; രക്തം കുടിച്ചിട്ടും അവർ തൃപ്തരായില്ല.
