उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
इस प्रकार श्रीमह्ााभारत भीष्मपर्वके अन्तर्गत जम्बूखण्डविनिर्माणपर्वमें श्रीवेदव्यासदर्शनविषयक दूसरा अध्याय पूरा हुआ
garbhiṇyo 'jātaputrāś ca janayanti vibhīṣaṇān | kravyādāḥ pakṣibhiś cāpi sahāśnanti parasparam ||
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഗർഭിണികൾ പുത്രന്മാരെ പ്രസവിക്കാതെ, ഗർഭത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ഭയങ്കര ജീവികളെ ജനിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. മാംസഭക്ഷികളായ ജീവികളും പക്ഷികളോടൊപ്പം ഒരേ സ്ഥലത്ത് ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ച് പരസ്പരം തമ്മിൽതന്നെ ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നു. ഇവ ധർമ്മവിപ്ലവത്തിന്റെയും മഹാവിനാശത്തിന്റെയും മുൻസൂചനകളാണ്.
