Bhīṣma-nipāta-saṃvāda — Sañjaya’s Report of Bhīṣma’s Fall (भीष्मनिपातसंवादः)
न हि मे शान्तिरस्तीह श्रुत्वा देवव्रतं हतम्
dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca | na hi me śāntir astīha śrutvā devavrataṃ hatam | tvaṃ hi me sarpiṣevāgnim uddīpayasi saṃjaya |
ധൃതരാഷ്ട്രൻ പറഞ്ഞു—“ദേവവ്രതൻ (ഭീഷ്മൻ) ഹതനായെന്നു കേട്ടതോടെ എനിക്ക് ഇവിടെ ശാന്തിയില്ല. സഞ്ജയാ! നീ ഘൃതം ഒഴിച്ച് അഗ്നി കൂടുതൽ ജ്വലിപ്പിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ എന്റെ ദുഃഖാഗ്നിയെ വർധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. യുദ്ധഭൂമിയുടെ ശോഭയായ ആ ഭയങ്കര പരാക്രമിയുടെ പതനം എന്റെ ധൈര്യം തകർത്തു; ഇനി എന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർക്കുണ്ടാകാനിരിക്കുന്ന നഷ്ടം ചിന്തിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ മഹാവ്യഥ ഉണരുന്നു. നിന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ ഘൃതാഹുതിയായി എന്റെ ചിന്തയും ശോകവും എന്ന അഗ്നിയെ കൂടുതൽ ഉദ്ദീപിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.”
