भीष्म उवाच न चेच्छक्यमवस्त्रष्टं वैरमेतत् सुदारुणम् । अनुजानामि कर्ण त्वां युद्धयस्व स्वर्गकाम्यया,भीष्मने कहा--कर्ण! यदि यह भयंकर वैर अब नहीं छोड़ा जा सकता तो मैं तुम्हें आज्ञा देता हूँ, तुम स्वर्गप्राप्तिकी इच्छासे युद्ध करो
bhīṣma uvāca na cec chakyaṃ avastrāṣṭuṃ vairam etat sudāruṇam | anujānāmi karṇa tvāṃ yudhyasva svargakāmyayā ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഹേ കർണാ, ഈ അതിഭീകരമായ വൈരം ഉപേക്ഷിക്കാൻ കഴിയാത്തതാണെങ്കിൽ, ഞാൻ നിന്നെ അനുവദിക്കുന്നു; സ്വർഗ്ഗലാഭത്തിന്റെ ആഗ്രഹത്തോടെ യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യുക.
