Educational Q&A

Even in war, armies seek legitimacy and cohesion by placing a revered elder and exemplar of duty at the forefront; the verse highlights how authority, honor, and perceived dharma are used to steady collective action in morally fraught circumstances.

Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the Kaurava forces—especially elephant units and cavalry—are fully equipped and are advancing to fight, with Bhīṣma positioned as the leading commander.
