Adhyāya 112: Bhīṣma-prati Arjunasya Pravṛttiḥ
Arjuna’s Forward Drive Toward Bhīṣma
तथा दन्तिगणा राजन् हयाश्रैव सुसज्जिता: । अभ्यवर्तन्त युद्धाय पुरस्कृत्य पितामहम्,राजन्! आपके कई लाख महारथी, हाथी और घोड़े सुसज्जित हो पितामह भीष्मको आगे करके युद्धके लिये बढ़ रहे थे
tathā dantigaṇā rājan hayāś caiva susajjitāḥ | abhyavartanta yuddhāya puraskṛtya pitāmaham ||
അതുപോലെ, രാജാവേ, ആനപ്പടകളും സുസജ്ജമായ അശ്വസേനയും പിതാമഹൻ ഭീഷ്മനെ മുൻപിൽ നിർത്തി യുദ്ധത്തിനായി മുന്നേറി।
संजय उवाच
Even in war, armies seek legitimacy and cohesion by placing a revered elder and exemplar of duty at the forefront; the verse highlights how authority, honor, and perceived dharma are used to steady collective action in morally fraught circumstances.
Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the Kaurava forces—especially elephant units and cavalry—are fully equipped and are advancing to fight, with Bhīṣma positioned as the leading commander.
