संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how war draws in revered teachers, their heirs, and allied rulers alike—showing that when ambition and factional loyalty dominate, even those associated with learning and duty become instruments of destruction. It implicitly invites reflection on dharma: status and pedigree do not guarantee righteous action.
Sañjaya is enumerating prominent Kaurava-side figures present on the battlefield—Droṇa, Aśvatthāman, Kṛpa, Duryodhana, Citrasena, Vikarṇa, and Jayadratha—situating the listener within the unfolding war by naming key combatants and allies.
