Adhyāya 108 — Nimitta-darśana and Drona’s counsel amid Arjuna’s advance (निमित्तदर्शनं द्रोणोपदेशश्च)
अभ्याहता हयारोहा ऋष्टिभिर्भरतर्षभ,पतिता: पात्यमानाश्र प्रत्यदृश्यन्त सर्वश: । राजन! सवारोंसहित वहाँ मारे गये बहुत-से घोड़े सब ओर गिरे और गिराये जाते हुए दिखायी देते थे ।। वध्यमाना हयाश्रैव प्राद्रवन्त भयाद्दिता:
sañjaya uvāca |
abhyāhatā hayārohā ṛṣṭibhir bharatarṣabha,
patitāḥ pātyamānāś ca pratyadṛśyanta sarvaśaḥ |
rājan! savārāḥ sahitā tatra mārā bahavo hayāḥ
sarvato nipatitāś ca nipātyamānāś ca dṛśyante ||
vadhyamānā hayāś caiva prādravan bhayārdītāḥ ||
ഹേ ഭാരതശ്രേഷ്ഠാ, കുന്തങ്ങളാൽ പ്രഹരിക്കപ്പെട്ട അശ്വാരോഹരെ എല്ലായിടത്തും കാണാമായിരുന്നു—ചിലർ വീണുകിടക്കുന്നു, ചിലർ താഴെയേക്ക് തള്ളപ്പെടുന്നു. ഹേ രാജാവേ, അവിടെ അനേകം കുതിരകൾ സവാരികളോടുകൂടി വധിക്കപ്പെട്ടു; എല്ലാടവും അവ വീഴുന്നതും വീഴ്ത്തപ്പെടുന്നതും ദൃശ്യമായി. വധിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന കുതിരകൾ ഭയത്തിൽ വിറച്ച് ഓടിപ്പോയി।
