Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharma through two linked duties: fulfilling a pledged word (satya-vacana) and showing proper reverence to a teacher/preceptor (apaciti to Bṛhaspati). Ethical action is framed as both loyalty to one’s commitment and respect for rightful authority.

Agni addresses Indra and declares that he will go as Indra’s envoy to bring Bṛhaspati to King Marutta. Agni’s stated motive is to ensure Indra’s promise is kept and to uphold Bṛhaspati’s honor by treating him with due respect.
