This line is a colophon rather than a didactic verse: its function is to formally close the chapter and locate it within the Mahābhārata’s structure (Parva and sub-parva). Indirectly, it emphasizes orderly transmission of tradition and the framing of events—such as victory and defeat—within a broader dharmic and instructional setting.
The text signals that the chapter dealing with ‘Vajradatta’s defeat’ has concluded. It does not narrate events itself, but marks the end of that episode and prepares the reader for the next chapter in the Anugītā portion of the Aśvamedhika Parva.
