Educational Q&A

Ritual and public religious acts should be entrusted to a qualified and duly connected officiant. Competence and proper authorization/standing (here, closeness to Indra and expertise in yajña) are presented as ethical criteria for choosing who should conduct sacred rites.

Vyāsa advises the listener to rely on his brother Bṛhaspati for conducting sacrificial ceremonies, noting that Bṛhaspati is fully capable and is currently closely associated with Indra, and thus is actively engaged in officiating yajñas.
