Abhimanyu’s Śrāddha; Vyāsa’s Assurance of the Unborn Heir
sa śokaṃ jahi durdharṣa mā ca manyuvaśaṃ gamaḥ
The verse urges inner discipline: grief should be relinquished and anger should not be allowed to dominate the mind. Ethical action (dharma) is protected when one remains steady, not driven by sorrow or wrath.
Vaiśampāyana, as narrator, reports an exhortation addressed to a formidable person: to abandon sorrow and to avoid being carried away by anger—guidance meant to restore composure and right judgment in a tense situation.
