Chapter 49

saddhāvaniratāścānye kecit saṁśayite sthitāḥ | duḥkhādanye sukhādanye dhyānam ityapare janāḥ ||

Educational Q&A

Human spiritual temperaments differ: some advance through faith, some are stalled by doubt, and some cultivate meditation either through austerity (enduring hardship) or through steadiness in comfortable conditions. The verse highlights that inner practice is pursued via multiple dispositions, but doubt is a distinct obstacle.

Vāyudeva is speaking and classifying different kinds of practitioners/people by their inner orientation—faithful, doubtful, and meditators—showing the variety of approaches and conditions under which contemplation is undertaken.
