Educational Q&A

Righteous rule includes safeguarding the dignity and well-being of elders—even former adversaries. Yudhiṣṭhira’s dharma is shown as protective responsibility: he will not tolerate needless disrespect or harm toward Dhṛtarāṣṭra.

In the Āśramavāsika context, Dhṛtarāṣṭra is living under the Pāṇḍavas’ care. The verse states that anyone who caused even slight displeasure to him would incur Yudhiṣṭhira’s hostility, indicating Yudhiṣṭhira’s strict oversight and reverent treatment of the old king.
