भीष्मादीनां च सर्वेषां सुहृदामुपकारिणाम् | मम कोशादिति विभो मा भूद् भीम: सुदुर्मना:
arjuna uvāca |
bhīṣmādīnāṁ ca sarveṣāṁ suhṛdām upakāriṇām |
mama kośād iti vibho mā bhūd bhīmaḥ sudurmanāḥ ||
“പ്രഭോ! ഭീഷ്മാദികളായ എല്ലാ ഉപകാരികളായ സുഹൃത്തുകളുടെ ശ്രാദ്ധച്ചെലവ് എന്റെ കോശത്തിൽ നിന്നുതന്നെ വരട്ടെ; ഇതുകൊണ്ട് ഭീമസേനൻ മനസ്സിൽ അത്യന്തം വിഷണ്ണനാകരുത്.”
अजुन उवाच
Even toward former opponents, one should honor benefactors and elders through rightful rites and gratitude; ethical responsibility includes easing a brother’s distress and taking personal accountability for dharmic obligations.
After the war, the Pāṇḍavas arrange śrāddha rites for Bhīṣma and other helpful well-wishers. Arjuna proposes that the necessary expenses be paid from his own treasury so that Bhīma does not feel burdened or saddened.
